iLvl Maxing in Midnight
Look, a bunch of you have been sliding into my DMs asking how the hell I got my main to 272 item level already heading into week 4 of Midnight Season 1.

The short answer? I followed a prioritized plan. Not some genius original masterpiece I cooked up in my basement, but one I straight-up adapted from Larias' Raider's Guide (plus the compation addon) to fit the content I actually play and the limited hours I’ve got each week.
I’ll lay the whole thing out for you, but fair warning: you’ll probably need to tweak it for your own situation. Here’s the bottom line up front — do this and you’ll squeeze every last drop of power out of your limited resources without burning out.
The Two Limited Resources That Actually Matter
Everything else is secondary. These are the ones you have to babysit:
- Sparks of Radiance
- Dawncrests (especially the higher tracks)

Sparks come from one single weekly quest that Lady Liadrin hands out. As of right now there’s no catch-up mechanic, so make picking this up and knocking it out every single week non-negotiable.
Why obsess over it? Because crafted gear can hit a stupid-high 285 iLvl, and for some specs those pieces are straight-up BiS. Even if they’re not BiS for you, they still give a massive power spike.

My crafting priority order (this is where the big gains live):
- First craft: Weapon – Always. Biggest power jump in the game.
- Two-hander? Four Sparks.
- One-hander + off-hand? Two Sparks each.
Use 80 Myth Dawncrests if you have them for a max-level 285 craft. If you don’t, craft it raw and recraft later. Skip Hero Dawncrests — they’re not worth it.
- Second craft: Off-hand (if you went one-hander) — same rules.
After that you’ve got flexibility. Avoid crafting head, shoulders, chest, hands, or legs. You need those tier set pieces for the bonuses.
Instead, lean into wrists, back, belt, or feet. Those slots usually give a bigger bump than neck or rings (especially if you’re eyeing the sweet Nexus-Point Xenas rings).
Every two weeks you get a chance to drop a fresh 285 into a slot that doesn’t have a Myth track piece or a juicy bonus effect yet. That adds up fast.
Dawncrests – The Capped Currency You Can’t Ignore
Dawncrests are capped, and the cap only creeps up by 100 each week. That means early weeks matter more than you think.
Current caps (as I’m writing this):
- Adventurer / Veteran / Champion: 600
- Hero / Myth: 300
There are 15–16 gear slots that need upgrading, and fully maxing one slot (6/6) costs 100 crests of the right track. Math says you’re looking at 1500–1600 crests total per track. Even with uncapped extras and smart upgrading tricks that drop the cost to ~80 per slot, it’s still going to take several weeks before everyone is walking around in full 289 Myth gear.

My rule for all crests below Myth:
Hold onto 20 crests for every slot that doesn’t already have a higher-track item in it.
Why? When you finally loot a higher-track piece for that slot, you can upgrade the old lower-track junk to 6/6 for just 20 crests, then bump the new piece straight to 2/6 without spending extra. Boom — you just saved 20 crests and sped up the whole process.
(Full disclosure: I sometimes skip tiers and blow the extra 20 crests because patience isn’t my strongest stat. Do as I say, not as I occasionally do when I’m tilted.)
Myth Dawncrests get special treatment:
I sit on 100 of them until after weekly reset and I’ve seen the Great Vault. I’m running at least ten +10 keys (or higher) every week, so my Vault usually offers three Myth-track 272s.
- If there’s something usable (BiS or a tier piece I can catalyze), I grab it and max it to 289 right away.
- If not, I take the 6 Thalassian Tokens of Merit for a Radiant Jewelbinder instead.
At that point I know exactly whether I’m crafting a 285 this week or next.
My Weekly Gearing Loop (The Actual Routine)
Here’s the simple checklist I run every week:
- Open the Great Vault — snag the best 272 Myth item (or tokens)
- Upgrade it immediately to 289
- Knock out Lady Liadrin’s Spark quest
- Craft a 285 if I’ve got the 80 Myth Dawncrests ready
- Grind as many +10 keys (or higher) as I can stomach for more crests, Vault slots, and Hero 3/6 loot
That’s it. Nothing fancy. Just consistent, prioritized effort.
I probably should’ve led with this checklist, but hey — I’m the guy who hits 272 and then writes the guide afterward. Classic me.
