Hero Track Trinkets in Heroic Raids: Worth Burning Voidcores or Nah?

Hero Track Trinkets in Heroic Raids: Worth Burning Voidcores or Nah?

Last week my bonus roll strategy paid off big time. Between the Great Vault and those Nebulous Voidcores, my main toon and max-level alts all scored at least two Myth track gear items. Guildies who jumped on the same plan reported solid hauls too.

But I noticed a ton of you getting tempted by Hero track trinkets in Heroic raids—Gaze of the Alnseer rolls being the most common culprit. That got me wondering: is it ever actually worth blowing your bonus rolls on a Hero track trinket from Heroic over chasing Myth track trinkets from Mythic+ dungeons? And if so, when the heck should you pull the trigger?

That pesky useless answer strikes again… It depends.

But here’s the real talk: for some specs, yeah, it can be worth it—especially if you’re not raiding Mythic anytime soon.

Hero Track Trinkets and Your Spec

There are some cases where a Hero track trinket from a raid can straight-up provide more power than Myth track trinkets from dungeons.

Take Demonology Warlock for instance. A Hero track Gaze of the Alnseer provides a bigger DPS gain than any Myth track trinket with the exception of Emberwing Feather.

This means it is certainly worth entertaining a two Nebulous Voidcore bonus roll in Heroic Dreamrift for that Hero track Gaze. Especially if you aren’t going to be raiding Mythic Dreamrift anytime soon.

You’ll have to look up your spec’s top tier trinkets to see how Hero track raid trinkets stack up against Myth track dungeon trinkets yourself. It’s probably also a good idea to sim (on Raidbots or Questionably Epic) it out against your talent build just to be certain before spending those precious and limited voidcores.

When To Roll

Assuming your character can benefit from a Hero track raid trinket more than Myth track dungeon options, you’re faced with the decision of when to roll.

I’m going to stick with the same strategy and only roll when the odds of getting that trinket over items I won’t use from the raid boss’s loot table are greater than those of a Myth track item from the Mythic+ dungeon loot tables.

In the Demonology Warlock example, the loot table from Chimaerus the Undreamt God yields a 25% chance of yielding the Gaze since there are two other Hero track items (Alnwoven Riftbloom, feet and offhand) that might drop. So rolling on it after all the Mythic+ dungeon loot tables have less than a 25% chance of dropping a usable Myth track item is when I would spend the voidcores on the bonus rolls.

That keeps things consistent, math-based, and way less “ooh shiny trinket” emotional.
